Printing Your 1099 Report and Forms
Notes:
-
Not all vendors receiving $600 or more in payments require a 1099-MISC or 1099-NEC from your firm. Please consult the Instructions for Form 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC at www.irs.gov to determine which of your vendors should receive a 1099-MISC or 1099-NEC.
-
You need to print your 1099s and 1096 form on a laser printer. We recommend that you place your forms in the paper bin tray instead of the manual feed tray.
-
Checks you create and post in the Juris program during the year (in addition to the Supplemental Amount you add or subtract) print the 1099 amount in only one of the available boxes on the 1099 forms.
-
The 1099 form only allows room for two lines of the vendor's street address. This has no effect on the vendor name or city, state, or zip code. If you have multiple vendors with street addresses, use the Vendor Address tab to move the main street address information to the first two lines.
-
We recommend that you first print your 1099 forms on plain paper before you print them on the IRS forms so you can review the page layout of the form. You can adjust the top margin by editing the Adjust Top Margin on Print Options tab.
-
The Juris 1099 utility does not support Combined Federal and State Filing. Please refer to IRS Publication 1220 for FIRE and IRS Publication 5717 for IRIS and seek assistance from your accountant or tax consultant to prepare electronic processing of Combined Federal and State filings.
-
The Juris 1099 utility does not support the 1099-S form for real estate.
-
The 1099 Utility is not compatible with dot matrix printers. Using forms designed for dot matrix printers will cause alignment issues on the printed form.
Print Options Tab
Enter the following information to set up your print options:
-
Firm's Federal Tax Identification Number: Enter you firm's Federal Tax Identification Number in the following format ##-####### (include the hyphen).
-
Threshold Amount: The Threshold Amount determines which vendors require 1099s. For example, in the year 2020, vendors that receive payments of $600 or more require 1099s.
-
Begin With & Print Through: This feature allows you to print 1099s for a single vendor or a range of vendors. The utility prints a form for any vendor you select in the Juris program. To select a vendor for the 1099 utility, click to check mark the Gets 1099 box.
-
Select Year to Print: The default year automatically pulls from your Juris database.
-
Sort By: You can sort your 1099s and the 1099 Report by Vendor Name, Vendor Tax ID, and Vendor Code.
-
Firm's Address:
-
Enter your firm's address or use the drop-down list to insert the firm name stored in the Juris Setup and Manage window along with the Office Address. If you have the firm name in the Office Address section, you need to delete one of the firm name lines after you select the address. The edits you make here do not affect the address stored in the Juris program.
-
Only six lines print in the Payer's box. If your firm name wraps to a second line, you only have four lines left for the address and phone number.
-
Verify that you list the firm's phone number on one of the address lines or type it on the forms after you print the 1099s.
-
-
Destination: Select the printer you want to use to print your 1099s.
-
You need to print your 1099s on a laser printer. We recommend that you place your forms in the paper bin tray instead of the manual feed tray.
-
-
Number of Copies: Enter the number of 1099s form copies per vendor you want to print. This field does not apply to the 1099 Report or the 1099 Test Page.
-
Adjust Top Margin: You can adjust the top margin of your forms up or down as much as ½ inch in either direction to align the forms with your printer. You can enter a range of -720 to 720 units in the Adjust Top Margin field. You can enter a positive number to move the form down or a negative number to move the form up. You can use the diagram below to assist with determining the adjustment. ½ inch is equivalent to 720 units.
-
Print Compensation Amounts : The Print Compensation Amounts enters a value on the 1099 form for any vendor that meets one or all of the following conditions:
-
Has a total check amount paid (and posted) for the year that meets or exceeds the Threshold Amount. For example, $600 dollars is the threshold in 2020.
-
Has a supplemental amount for the year greater than or equal to the Threshold Amount.
-
The utility allows you to uncheck the Print Compensation Amounts box to create 1099s without a dollar amount. If you uncheck the box, the utility prints 1099s for all vendors you select with the Gets 1099 feature. Also, disabling Print Compensation Amounts causes the utility to ignore the Threshold limit.
-
If you choose to uncheck Print Compensation Amounts, you need to manually fill in the dollar amounts after you print the 1099s.
-
-
Truncate SSN: Places Xs for the first part of the Social Security Number displaying the last 4. This only applies to vendors where Social Security has been selected as the Tax ID type.

-
Name of person to contact: Enter the name of the person that will be reflected as person to contact on the 1096 form.
-
Telephone number
-
Email Address
-

-
Print X in 1099 – MISC Print X in 1099 – NEC: Choose a check mark in 1 of the boxes.
-
Vendor Information Tab
The following reports can be helpful for verifying vendor payment history:
| How many vendors | Period covered | Location | Added info |
|---|---|---|---|

| All vendors | All years | Inquiry-Reports > Accounts Payable > Vendor History | Includes ITD Totals |
| All vendors | Single year | Supplemental Reports > Vendor Payments | 1099? Y or N |
Click the column headings Vendor, Vendor Name, Print on Form to sort the spreadsheet by that item. Sorting does not affect the sort order when you print your 1099 forms or 1099 report. By sorting on Print on Form, you can sort on the type and uncheck/check the print or export options.
