Use billing frequencies to control when matters are selected for billing. Monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual billing frequencies use the matter’s beginning month to determine eligible billing periods. On Cycle lets the firm define custom billing cycles, and On Request excludes qualifying matters from traditional prebill selection by frequency or cycle.
Billing frequency determines when a matter is included in prebill selection by frequency or cycle.

On Cycle
The source article states that setting the billing frequency to Annually disables the beginning month selection and enables the On Cycle option.
On Cycle allows a firm to define specific billing cycles as needed. Cycles 1-999 may be defined.
For example, if the firm wants to bill clients monthly but prefers to select one set of bills during week 1, another during week 2, another during week 3, and another during week 4, the firm can assign matters to cycles 1-4. At billing time, the firm can select prebills by cycle and enter the appropriate cycle.
Cycles can also be used for a separate billing run, such as a VIP billing run.
For example, if insurance clients bill electronically and are dependable with payments but slow to pay, the firm may assign them to a cycle, such as cycle 99. Before the traditional bill run, the firm can run cycle 99, complete those bills, upload them, and post them as soon as possible. The firm can then continue with the remaining monthly prebills through a traditional frequency selection.
On Request
The On Request option is limited to matters assigned to either a Flat Fee or Contingency billing frequency.
This setting excludes those matters from traditional prebill selection by frequency or cycle. These matters can only be included in an on-demand prebill selection, such as selection by:
- Billing Timekeeper
- Client All Matters
- Consolidation Name
- Matter
- Client Range
