To void a check in Juris, use the Transactions > Void Check option to locate the check by bank account and period. After selecting the appropriate check, you can choose whether to void the associated voucher and complete the void process from the Tools menu. Only one check may be voided at a time.
Voiding a check may be necessary when a payment was issued in error or must be canceled before reconciliation. This procedure outlines how to locate the check, determine the correct void period, and complete the void process properly.
To void a check:
-
Select Transactions > Void Check.
The Void Checks window opens.
-
In the Bank Account box, enter the bank account associated with the check to be voided.
Alternatively, click the ellipses (…) button to select the bank account from the list.
-
Select the appropriate Void checks in period of option to filter the checks displayed:
Today’s Date – Select this option if the check occurred in the same accounting period as the current date.
-
Original Date – Select this option if the check occurred in a previously posted period.
All checks that have not yet been marked as cleared are also listed.
-
Locate the check in the list.
You may sort the list by clicking a column heading.
Click once to sort in ascending order; click again to sort in descending order.
-
In the Void Voucher column for the selected check, choose Yes if the associated voucher should also be deleted.
-
Click the row number to select the entire row for the check to be voided.
Only one check may be voided at a time.
If the associated voucher is to be deleted (that is, Yes was selected in the Void Voucher column), additional information may be required regarding the deletion of expense distributions. See Void Payment Voucher for details.
-
Select Tools > Void from the menu bar.
The system prompts: "Are you sure you want to void this check?"
- Click Yes to proceed with the void.
