Use Cash Receipts to record payments received in Juris. A cash receipt can be applied to outstanding invoices, prepaid funds, trust funds, or funds not related to a client or matter.
To create a cash receipt, open Transactions > Cash Receipts, create a new batch, enter the check and payor information, and complete the tab that applies to the type of receipt you are entering:
- Use the A/R tab to apply cash to outstanding invoices.
- Use the PPD tab to apply cash to prepaid funds.
- Use the Trust tab to apply cash to trust funds.
- Use the Other tab to apply cash that is not related to a client or matter.
After the cash receipt is saved, the transaction remains editable until the batch is posted. A user with posting rights must post the batch to finalize the transaction.
Before you begin
Review the following before creating the cash receipt:
- Dates must fall within the current Accounting Period unless the user has permission to enter dates in any period in the User ID’s Menu Rights.
- If the Payor box is left blank, Juris automatically uses the Client/Matter nicknames entered in the first row of the A/R or PPD tab, depending on the selected Cash Receipts Preference.
- To view a check number in a Client/Matter inquiry, enter the check number first in the Payor box, followed by the name.
- To change the bank account deposit on the A/R tab, you must have the User is allowed to change Bank Account deposit Menu Right assigned in System Manager.
