Overview of Profit Centers
Profit Centers, located under Sub Accounts, allow firms to classify accounting information for reporting and distribution purposes. They enable tracking of accounting activity by arbitrary groupings or divisions, which can represent administrative areas (e.g., offices or departments) or functional activities (e.g., practice areas or timekeeper activity).
Profit Center Accounting
When the "Distribute to G/L Profit Centers" option is enabled in Firm Options, it applies to income and adjustment accounts. In this setup:
- Profit Centers Must Be Defined: Set up in Profit Center maintenance.
- Chart of Accounts Integration: G/L account numbers include Profit Center IDs.
- Office Association: Profit Center codes are assigned to Offices, which then link to Client/Matter records via Office Codes. Without an assigned Office Code, this feature remains disabled.
